Guyana Foresty Commission
Guyana is situated on the northeastern coast of South America, in between Venezuela which lies to its west and Suriname (Dutch Guiana) on its east. Guyana has an area of 214,970 km2 of which nearly seventy-five percent is covered with natural vegetation. Of this area, approximately four fifths is classified as State Forests under the jurisdiction of the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC).
Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry
The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established under the name “The Chamberof Commerce of the City of Georgetown” in the year 1889. The formation of the chamber begun at a meeting with Royal Agricultural Commercial Society and a Commercial Committee held on the 20 the December 1888.
Guyana Manufacturing and Services
The Guyana Manufacturers’ Association (GMA) was registered in 1967, succeeding the Guyana Light Industries Employers Association. In 2005, the Services sub-sector throughout Guyana was placed under the umbrella of the GMA when it was recognized that the provisions from this sub-sector were a natural complement to manufacturing.
Guyana Office for Investment
In addition to its well-known deposits of gold, diamonds and bauxite, Guyana’s mineral heritage includes occurrences of industrial minerals such as kaolin, silica sand, soapstone, kyanite, feldspar, mica, ilmenite, columbite-tantalite, and manganese; base metals such as copper, lead, zinc, molybdenite, tungsten, and nickel; ferrous metals, of which iron as magnetite and laterite is the main type; uranium; and semi-precious stones such as amethyst, green quartz, black pearl, agate and jaspar.
Guy Expo
GuyExpo became an annual event in 2004, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Keith Burrowes, and is now the longest sustained exhibition in the Caribbean, in that year; the organizers took cognizance of the growth and interdependence of international trade and opened the exhibition to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and other regional exhibitors.
International Tropical Timber Organization
The International Tropical Timber Organization is an intergovernmental organization that promotes conservation of tropical forest resources and their sustainable management, use and trade.
